Train your team: older people's health

Training your team and ensuring everyone's knowledge is up-to-date are important CPD triggers. We suggest that you get the team together for a training session based on the activities below and discuss the various ways in which you can offer customers and patients added care in this category.

Subject: older people's health

This Train Your Team checklist provides support and information to run a team training session on older people's health. This content can also be used for your own CPD.

Reflection

  • Do we give older people plenty of time to describe any health worries they may have?
  • Do we understand healthy living issues older people may face? Do we acknowledge these in our advice?
  • Are we skilled in identifying an older person’s real concerns?
  • Are we aware of signs and symptoms among older people that could relate to serious health issues?
  • Do we consider the social issues that can impact on older people’s health?
  • Is our pharmacy ‘older person friendly’?
  • Is the whole pharmacy team involved in medicines optimisation in our patients?
  • Do we have a dementia champion or dementia friend in the pharmacy? Should we have one?
