Fleas are more than just a minor irritation, they can result in:

  • Intense itching (pruritus)
  • Flea allergy dermatitis, which needs veterinary attention
  • Anaemia in puppies and kittens
  • The transmission of tapeworms to dogs and cats.

Fleas lay eggs that fall off the pet, hatch and infest the home. A single female flea can lay up to 50 eggs per day, which fall off the pet and hatch. This is why 95% of a flea problem exists in the home.

Fleas rarely jump from one pet to another. The most common way pets pick up fleas is from infested environments indoors and outdoors.

Pet owners can also be bitten by dog and cat fleas.
