Finding out about your customer
You can use simple open questions to explore your patient’s symptoms and current health status.
For example:
- How are you feeling today?
- What can I help you with?
- What questions do you have about your medication?
Try one of these two useful techniques to help guide the questions you ask.
- Lifestyle: ‘how is the problem affecting you day-to-day?’
- Ideas: ‘what do you think might be causing the problem?’
- Concerns: ‘what’s your biggest worry about this?’
- Expectations: ‘what are you hoping we can do today?’
- Feelings: ‘how are you feeling today?’
- Who is it for?
- What are the symptoms?
- How long have the symptoms been present?
- Any other medication being used?
- What medication has been tried already?
