DRY EYE

Dry eye offers a significant opportunity for pharmacy, especially as NHS England has advised CCGs not to routinely prescribe for dry eye as the condition is appropriate for self-care.3

Potential causes

  1. Insufficient tear production (e.g. due to Sjögren's syndrome, blocked tear ducts, or the side effects of certain medications)

  2. Increased tear evaporation (Possible causes include: meibomian gland dysfunction, preservatives in eye products, contact lenses, allergies and low blink rate)
