Use Section 1 of the Pharmacy Checklist to:

  • Check suitability against the indication, and exclude possible differential diagnosis
  • Check for contraindications
  • Check family history
  • Determine if GP referral is required

Outcome: Make an initial supply (lasts for 7 weeks) and give product and health advice OR refer to GP as appropriate.

After 7 weeks, when the patient returns for a further supply, use Section 2 of the Pharmacy Checklist to:

  • Check that symptoms have not worsened - patients should be advised they may not see symptom improvement that they consider significant until after 3 months of treatment; however, Gina can significantly relieve women’s most bothersome symptoms in 8-12 weeks, so they may notice improvements earlier.3
  • Check for any new symptoms or changes in health status
  • Check for any changes in family history
  • Check there are no problems using Gina
  • Check whether they have had a treatment break

Outcome: Make a further 3-month supply, answer any questions the patient has or refer them to their GP if necessary.

Use Section 2 of the Pharmacy Checklist for the first 3-monthly visit to:

  • Check symptoms are improving
  • Check for any new symptoms or changes in health status
  • Check for any changes in family history
  • Check there are no problems using Gina
  • Check whether they have had a treatment break

Outcome: Make a further 3-month supply, answer any questions the patient has or refer them to their GP if necessary.

For ongoing 3-monthly visits, use Section 3 of the Pharmacy Checklist to:

Confirm symptom control is still satisfactory and there are no changes to health status, symptoms or family history that require Gina to be discontinued.
