When to refer

REFER CUSTOMERS WITH THE FOLLOWING TO THEIR GP/111:1,4
  • Blood in the stools
  • Recent hospital/antibiotic treatment
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Dehydration
  • Nocturnal symptoms
  • Potential illnesses caused by recent travel
  • Diarrhoea that lasts more than 7 days (or vomiting more than 2 days)
  • Unable to keep fluid down due to sickness
REFER CUSTOMERS WITH THE FOLLOWING TO A&E:4
  • Vomiting blood/vomit that looks like ground coffee
  • Green or yellow vomit
  • They might have swallowed something poisonous
  • They also have a stiff neck and pain when looking at bright lights
  • They have a sudden, severe headache or stomach ache
