First-of-its-kind pharmacy technician fellowship launched

NHS England and the General Pharmaceutical Council have announced they are co-hosting a national pharmacy technician fellowship.

“This new fellowship post offers a one-year fixed term opportunity work across the Office of the Chief Pharmaceutical Officer (NHSE) and the GPhC,” the organisations said in a joint statement, adding that applications will open on January 22. A webinar offering more details will be provided on Tuesday, January 21.

GPhC chief pharmacy officer Roz Gittins said: “We are delighted to be co-hosting this exciting pharmacy technician fellowship opportunity.

“We are looking for an individual who is ready to work in a new way, providing professional leadership and advice relating to where pharmacy technicians can add value to national healthcare priorities.

“We welcome applications from experienced pharmacy technicians from any healthcare sector.”

Liz Fidler, a senior advisor to NHSE on pharmacy technician practice, commented: “The fellowship provides a unique opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to work across organisations and support key roles, enabling pharmacy technician professional practice to develop further and boost patients’ access to clinical services.

“Applications are welcome from pharmacy technicians working in any healthcare sector. As well as your knowledge, experience and skills, your attitude to embracing what a unique fellowship like this can offer will be integral to the recruitment process.”
