A man who smashed up a pharmacy in Peterborough and threatened staff and members of the public after he was refused free antibiotics has been jailed for 15 months.

More Juma, 33, of Kimberley Road, Leicester, caused £5,000 in damage to City Pharmacy in Peterborough city centre on November 21 last year after he demanded antibiotics for a tooth problem.

According to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Juma became aggressive when staff told him he needed to pay and they called the police. Staff gave him a gel for his dental problem but he was unable to open it and started smashing up items including computer monitors, card machines and scanners.

He then threatened customers with a glass bottle and struck a man twice in the back. The man tried to subdue Juma by spraying a fire extinguisher at him but he was eventually overpowered by passers-by and arrested by officers.

When he asked to see a custody nurse for his tooth pain at Thorpe Wood Police Station, he spat in both her eyes when she opened his cell hatch. Juma was jailed having been found guilty at an earlier hearing of assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage and affray.

“Juma behaved disgracefully towards people who were just trying to help him and I am glad he has faced justice,” said PC Sam Malton.
