I am standing for the RPS English Pharmacy Board. This is why

Yasmin Karsan, MRPharmS, PhD, MSc, IP, explains why she is standing in this year’s election.

As the elections for the RPS English Pharmacy Board draw to a close, I feel fortunate to have been able to present myself as a candidate. I am driven by a deep-seated passion for the advancement of the pharmacy profession and the welfare of both pharmacists and patients.

My journey into pharmacy has not just been a career choice but a lifelong commitment rooted in familial influence, educational pursuit and relentless drive.

Since a young age I grew up working in my parents’ pharmacy and developed an early understanding of the selfless commitment and the pivotal role pharmacists play in healthcare and the wider community. This upbringing laid the foundation for my unwavering dedication to the pharmacy profession.

I have been fortunate with my academic career completing my MPharm at the School of Pharmacy and my PhD at the University of Nottingham. My PhD focused on New Models of Care and Community Pharmacy. Through this I delved into key areas which impacted the growth of our profession within the wider healthcare system. My research perpetuated my continual commitment to support growth and evolution of the pharmacy profession.

My professional trajectory has been marked by diverse experiences spanning hospital, academia and community pharmacy settings. These varied roles have enabled me to have a holistic understanding of the challenges and opportunities confronting our profession today across various sectors.

I firmly believe that a diverse workforce fosters innovation and enriches our collective perspective. By promoting equality, diversity of thought and inclusion, we can cultivate a more vibrant and inclusive pharmacy community that better serves the needs of all.

From navigating the intricacies of independent community pharmacies to embracing cutting-edge technologies in healthcare, I am committed to propelling positive change and advancement. Central to my ethos as a pharmacist is the unwavering commitment to patient safety.

With a Masters in Artificial Intelligence, I am a trained Clinical Safety Officer, I am deeply invested in integrating innovative technologies with pharmacy practice to enhance patient outcomes and elevate the standard of care we provide, while using technology to evolve our workforce.

In summary, I believe that my multifaceted experiences, steadfast commitment to excellence and genuine concern for the pharmacy profession makes me a compelling candidate for the English Pharmacy Board. As the end of the election approaches, I seek your support and vote. Together, we can foster a new era of progress and elevate the pharmacy profession.

Yasmin Karsan is standing as a candidate in this year’s Royal Pharmaceutical Society national board elections in England. The deadline for voting is 5pm on May 20. Pharmacy Magazine welcomed personal manifestos or position statements from candidates during the hustings period.
