MHRA recalls two drugs in two days

Two drugs have been recalled by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.

A batch of sodium bicarbonate 1.26 per cent solution for infusion (batch number 22BC01), which is manufactured by Fresenius Kabi Limited, was recalled today as a precautionary measure after particles in the solution were discovered after a routine batch analysis.

The MHRA urged healthcare professionals to stop supplying the batch immediately, quarantine all remaining stock and return it to their supplier.

“The company’s investigation indicates that the particles appear to originate from the interaction between the equipment and the packaging material during the filling process. The integrity of the packaging and sterility of the product are not compromised,” the regulator said.

Yesterday, it recalled Paroxetine 40mg film coated tablets (batch number 06309) because of “out-of-specification results for dissolution during routine stability testing.” The product is manufactured by Crescent Pharma Limited.
