Former Well Pharmacy operations head Alice Hare has been given a key services role with pharmacy group Alitam.
Ms Hare, who left Well in late 2021 after four and a half years, joins the company board as head of services mobilisation, CEO Feisal Nahaboo announced this week.
Alitam is a group of roughly 100 pharmacies across the UK and Ireland with plans to grow five-fold over the next 10 years.
Mr Nahaboo has spoken of his ambition to create a number of ‘super pharmacies’ within the group that will offer services such as cosmetic procedures, diagnostic services and public health advice.
Commenting on the new hire, he said: “Alice is the perfect fit for Alitam, and a huge advocate of our movement to revolutionise healthcare by fully utilising highly skilled and experienced community pharmacists.
“She contacted me having seen our work at the vanguard of innovation, most recently with our roll-out of GP-type clinical services like minor ailments clinics, diabetes checks, weight loss clinics and more.
“She will be instrumental in transforming our community pharmacies from their product-based offering to one of clinical and wellbeing services.”
He said that Ms Hare “will work closely” with chief operating officer Bharti Patel, who was previously executive director of the Avicenna group.
Ms Hare said: “I’ve been waiting for an opportunity such as this for a long time.
“It’s long been obvious to me that pharmacies are uniquely equipped to plug the enormous gap in healthcare which leaves many of our citizens needlessly suffering – most especially in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Feisal’s radical vision for healthcare is precisely what’s needed right now, and it’s galvanising pharmacies in a way I’ve not seen before.”
