The Department of Health and Social Care has issued a medicine supply notification for Provera 10mg tablets.

The medroxyprogesterone-containing tablets, which have a number of indications including the treatment of management of heavy or irregular periods and of mild to moderate endometriosis, are “in limited supply until mid-September,” said the September 1 notification, which was classified as Tier 3 or ‘high impact’.

There is some availability of 2.5mg and 5mg medroxyprogesterone tablets but this “will not be able to support an increase in demand,” said the DHSC. 

However, it is thought that supplies of norethisterone 5mg tablets will be able to meet the demand.
