A pharmacy in Cumbria is encouraging local people who are suffering with mental health problems or feel suicidal to talk to a member of its team.

In a post on Facebook, Castlegate Pharmacy in Cockermouth said its staff have completed suicide awareness training and urged anyone suffering with mental health problems, or who knows someone who is, to contact it in confidence.

The pharmacy said this social media reminder was designed to coincide with Movember, an annual event that sees people grow moustaches in November to raise awareness of men's health issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men's suicide. However, the pharmacy said it wants to hear from anyone who is in need of help.

“Our amazing Castlegate Pharmacy team members have completed suicide awareness training to help support our local community,” Castlegate Pharmacy wrote on Facebook.

“If you are struggling to cope or you know someone who is, don’t suffer in silence. Come and speak in confidence to a member of the team. We will find a private quiet space where you can speak to us in privacy.”

The pharmacy is working alongside Every Life Matters, a Cumbrian suicide prevention and suicide bereavement support charity, to raise awareness of suicide.
