A pharmacist whose community pharmacy suffered a devastating fire that forced it to close this month has promised it will open again.

Derryn Cottrill, who worked at Euro Chemist in Berry Street, Liverpool, said the fire, which was caused by an electrical fault, would not bring about the pharmacy’s permanent closure.

In a Facebook post, the pharmacy, which was celebrating its 43^rd birthday this month, reported nobody was hurt and defiantly exclaimed to patients: “We have no plans on leaving you just yet!”

Thanking them for their “continuous support,” the pharmacy said: “All that remains to be said is watch this space. We’re going to roll out the red carpet and welcome you all back with open arms bigger and better than ever.”

Euro Chemist serves a large Chinese community in the city and some of the pharmacy team are trained in Cantonese and Mandarin. Ms Cottrill told the Liverpool Echo: “We're devastated and worried for our community. Because of all the work we do for the community, I just want them to know we haven't left them and we will be back as soon as we can.

“We are hoping to get up and running in the community once again as soon as is possible. We've been serving (our) Chinese community since opening. We've been a service of help for stuff that goes beyond just being a point of access for NHS services.”
