The owner of two independent pharmacies on the west coast of Scotland has put the businesses up for sale.

Sanjay Majhu, who owns several pharmacies in the country, has employed Christie and Co to sell Islay Pharmacy on the Isle of Islay and Inveraray Pharmacy in Argyll.

According to Christie and Co, Islay Pharmacy dispenses an average of 3,600 items a month, and “single-handedly serves the island’s population of circa 3,200 residents.”

The broker said Inveraray Pharmacy dispenses an average of 1,694 items a month and is situated in an area “known to be a tourist hotspot, attracting both UK and international visitors.”

Majhu bought Islay Pharmacy in 2018 for £450,000, a deal that was also brokered by Christie and Co. The pharmacy is now on the market for £600,000 while Inveraray Pharmacy is priced at £275,000.

“Both pharmacies are excellent lifestyle opportunities for owner-pharmacists to work and live in stunning parts of rural Scotland,” said Karl Clezy, director-medical at Christie and Co who is handling the sales.

“Both benefit from a high influx of tourists and visitors. Inveraray is a popular village on Loch Fyne for visitors looking to spend a day enjoying the scenery and grabbing a bite to eat. Whereas Islay is well-known for its famous whisky distilleries that attract whisky enthusiasts from all over the world. Both pharmacies are trading well, helping to support the healthcare needs of their communities.”
