Lifestyle changes
The interventions recommended by NICE are:
- Weight loss (if BMI over 30)
- Caffeine reduction (OAB only)
- Fluid management including timing of fluid intake in relation to bedtime. Restrict fluids in the evening (especially coffee, caffeinated beverages and alcohol)
- Adjust timing of medicines. Time intake of diuretics in particular (take mid-to-late afternoon, six hours before bedtime)
- Reduce physical exertion (e.g. lifting)
- Stop smoking
- Resolve chronic constipation and prevent recurrence.
