Four CPD entries are required each year, as research shows that recording CPD encourages reflective practice. Pharmacists are required to record two types of learning for their CPD – planned and unplanned. At least two entries each year must be planned.

Planned CPD learning should meet the GPhC’s feedback criteria if it covers:

  • What the learning is (e.g. new knowledge, skills, or a new attitude or approach to enhance skills)
  • The relevance of the learning to the individual’s practice and role
  • How the learning will affect people using the service. Planned learning needs to be relevant and positively impact on service users
  • The options or activities selected. Consider a range of options for achieving planned learning objectives and detail these appropriately
  • How the learning has been applied. Provide a real example of how the learning has benefited those using your services, including specific skills, attitudes and/or behaviours gained through the learning
  • How the learning, once applied, has benefited the people using the service, illustrated with an example or feedback.

Unplanned CPD learning should meet the feedback criteria if it describes:

  • The activity that enabled new learning or a refresh of current knowledge and skills. Provide specific details e.g. if it was reading material, reference the text
  • What was learned (i.e. skills, knowledge, attitudes and/or behaviours)
  • How this was applied
  • Once applied, how this has benefited people using the service including feedback given. Again, a real example must be provided. This could be the introduction of a new service, knowledge that has been applied to address a specific query or new knowledge that has been used as part of an individual’s practice
