Asthma ‘playing cards’ have been developed by the IPCRG to help stimulate discussion between patients and pharmacy colleagues. There are three types:
- Challenge
- Metaphor
- Question.4
The following are some examples of the cards that community pharmacy teams can use to improve their dialogue with patients:

Thinking about what you have read in this CPD module, write down three things you are going to do as a result. These might include:
- Teaching key staff who use PMRs how to check the number of SABA inhalers issued in the last six months
- Signing up to be a ‘SABA guardian’
- If you have a team member who helps you prepare for MURs or medication reviews, ask them to calculate a patient’s ICS:SABA ratio
- Ordering some Asthma Control Test sheets or printing them off to share with your support staff.
