A number of apps are recommended by the NHS that can help with mental health, both proactively and reactively. Many of these are free to access; for example:

  • The Silver Cloud eight-week online course to help manage stress, anxiety and depression
  • Feeling Good to help build a positive mindset
  • WorryTree, which helps users notice and address negative thoughts using cognitive behavioural therapy techniques.

A full list can be found here.

The NHS also recommends online resources, including from the charities Mind, Anxiety UK and Samaritans, and the Living Life To The Full online courses, which can help people tackle low mood and stress and develop resilience. There is also a wealth of websites dedicated to a range of topics concerning mental health and wellbeing – from self-esteem and going to work after mental health issues, to coping with money worries and finding a support group.

Good mental health is not simply about the absence of diagnosable mental health conditions. It enables individuals to be able to feel, express and manage a range of emotions, both positive and negative, form and maintain good relationships with others, and be able to cope with change and uncertainty. All are qualities essential for members of the pharmacy team.
