2. Starting the consultation
It is important to find out which of the following scenarios apply to the patient so that your advice and explanations can be tailored to the context:
- A person with a new prescription/new dosage of a lipid lowering medication
- A person identified at increased CVD risk (primary prevention) where starting a medication (usually a statin) may be considered
- A person with established CVD who has not previously been prescribed a statin or other lipid lowering medication
- A person with high cholesterol, including inherited forms of high cholesterol, who is at increased risk of premature CVD and/or already has established CVD.
