Contractors register to provide the CPCS on the Manage Your Service (MYS) portal (if you haven’t registered for MYS details are available on the PSNC website).

Updating the Directory of Services is important as NHS111 will look for a pharmacy nearby to the patient’s location that will remain open for a further 30 minutes after the referral. Patients can still choose a particular pharmacy, especially for low acuity conditions. Ensuring your Directory of Services entry is up to date is therefore extremely important to ensure referrals are managed properly.

Transition payments have been provided to reward early engagement with the service. If you had already registered for the service by 1st December 2019 you will receive £900; if you registered before 15th January 2020 you will receive £600. Registering after this date will not result in any transition payment.

Actions

  • Read the CPCS service specification
  • Ensure you have an SOP for the CPCS and review and update it after experience of delivering the service
  • Ensure the pharmacy’s Business Continuity Plan includes actions to be taken when the CPCS cannot be delivered
  • Plan for IT access in your consulting room if it is not already available.
