module menu icon Nutrition: there is no 'one size fits all'

Just as there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to advice about medicines, there is no ‘one size fits all’ approach to advice about nutrition and eating well.

Much of the education and discussion about diet and nutrition focuses on people maintaining a healthy weight, or being overweight or obese, with the focus predominantly on the energy content of food and calorie counting. As pharmacy professionals, it is important to consider the biochemistry of food and how different macronutrients and micronutrients have an impact on medicines and pharmacology, as well as their effect on the physiology of the human body in both health and disease.

Take a look at the scenario on the next page and consider the importance of nutrition for someone with prediabetes.
