Boosting confidence in self care

Research suggests that most consumers lack confidence when it comes to self care, but GSK Consumer Healthcare aims to tackle the problem with a new campaign.

With research suggesting that most consumers lack confidence when it comes to self care, GSK Consumer Healthcare is funding a major new campaign aimed at supporting responsible use of everyday medicines.

A recent study conducted for the company found that while 80 per cent of Europeans accept that it is their responsibility to manage their own health and are willing to do so, only two in 10 feel confident enough to actually do this. Meanwhile, over the past two years, online searches for ‘self care’ and ‘treat at home’ have surged by 33 and 58 per cent respectively. “Improved public understanding could reduce the burden on health systems,” says GSK.

The new ‘Let’s Treat It Right’ campaign focuses initially on responsible use of pain medicines, following four key themes: the right need, the right dose the right storage and the right disposal. These will be highlighted on a campaign website and across social media channels. The aim is to expand into other areas of everyday healthcare over the next year.

As well as supporting the public, Let’s Treat It Right contains information and resources for healthcare professionals, including pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
