MHRA issues recall for stolen medicines fed back into supply chain

The MHRA is currently investigating an incident where nearly 40 different medicines appear to have left the legal supply chain and then been re-introduced via HMS Wholesale Ltd. The wholesaler’s license has now been terminated.

The products do appear to be genuine with legitimate batch numbers, says the MHRA, and are thought to have been stolen from the legitimate supply chain in early 2019 and reintroduced between May and August 2019.

The products identified by the MHRA include pre-filled syringes and infusion vials along with inhalers and a range of tablet products. The MHRA is recalling all affected products since it says that the correct transport and storage conditions cannot be guaranteed.

The recall applies only to the products and batch numbers listed in the MHRA alert that have been supplied direct from HMS Wholesale Ltd.

If pharmacies have received any affected products they are asked to quarantine them and notify the Defective Medicines Reporting Centre (020 3080 6574).
