The Royal Pharmaceutical Society has appointed Fiona McIntyre as its policy and practice lead in Scotland.

McIntyre (pictured), whose background is in hospital pharmacy, will play a leading role in implementing the professional leadership body’s vision strategy which aims to ensure pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are working across a number of care settings by 2030.

The RPS said she will “also take a GB-wide lead on specific projects, working alongside the policy and practice leads in England and Wales,” represent pharmacists on working groups and in meetings, cultivate links with pharmacy organisations and support the RPS director for Scotland Laura Wilson.

McIntyre, who takes up the role in early October, said: “During my career in NHS Scotland, I have advocated for pharmacy teams wherever I could. I am passionate about the role our profession can play in the safe and effective use of medicines and it’s a privilege to join the Royal Pharmaceutical Society as policy and practice lead.

“I’m very much looking forward to promoting pharmacy in Scotland and helping our profession reach its full potential.”

Wilson said McIntyre’s “exceptional experience will be invaluable” to the role of policy and practice lead and insisted she would “play an integral part” in ensuring the RPS’s Pharmacy 2030 vision for pharmacy “becomes a reality.”
